Best of the internet

I was raised on the internet. From the moment my dad sat me in front of a computer at the age of three, it has been the constant source of knowledge, entertainment and community in my life. I have grown up on the internet, and consider it to be humanity's greatest invention.

That being said, the internet is not always a great place to be (and this has become more and more true lately). To counter that, and to ensure no one is stuck without a place to go online, here are some of my favorite corners of the internet:

  • The Battle for Wesnoth - an open source, turn-based strategy game with a high fantasy theme. It was the first game I ever got into, and I used to be active on the forums and helping out with the game in any way I could. It remains one of the best games I've ever played.
  • No CS person's website would be complete without a link to XKCD – some of the most intelligent comics on the web - my favorite comic is definitely this one.
  • Schneier on Security – one of the best blogs about the shadowy world of cybersecurity.
  • Pretty much any interview by Jurgen Klopp. But I especially love this letter he wrote to the fans as COVID took over the world.
  • Continuing on the Liverpool theme, this was the best night of my life. And a really great, well-shot cinematic take of it..
  • The second best night of my life. Again, I'm a Liverpool fan.
  • Learn Python the Hard Way , by Zed A. Shaw – one of the best resources available to learn one of the world’s most powerful languages. It was what got me into computer science!
  • Looking For Alaska by John Green. Many years have come and gone since my friend Dhiren lent me his copy of Looking for Alaska, and so many things in my life have changed, but my love for that book never will. I have been a fan of John and Hank Green for 15+ years now, and I am and will always be a member of Nerdfighteria.
  • My favorite sports writers include Musa Okwonga, Neil Atkinson and Jonathan Liew. I also thoroughly enjoy the work from the TIFO team.
  • I believe that the world would be a better place if more people read "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas", by Ursula K LeGuin.
  • Here are some of my favorite quotes.

Now that I've graduated, I have some more time on my hands - I will use that fruitfully to add more to this list.
